Location & Privacy
How location features work, what data is collected, and how to control your privacy.

Overview
Osaka Nightlife Network includes optional location features designed to help members discover venues, see community activity, and receive relevant recommendations. This page explains what location information we collect, when and why we collect it, how anonymous analytics are created, how recommendations work, and how you can control your location privacy at any time. All location features are completely optional.
What Location Information Is Collected
The Platform does NOT continuously track your location throughout Japan. Instead, the app only detects when you arrive at, remain within, or leave a registered venue using geofencing technology. When you check in at a venue, we store your check-in record, including the venue, time, your chosen presence mode, and optional activity status. We do not collect continuous travel history, routes, or GPS coordinates outside of venue detection.
When Location Is Collected
Location data is only processed when you are physically present at a registered venue and have enabled location services. The app checks whether you have entered a venue's geofence (a virtual boundary around the venue's location). No location data is collected when you are not near a registered venue, when location services are disabled, or when you choose to stay private.
Why Location Is Collected
Location data is used to: detect when you arrive at a venue and offer a check-in prompt; display approximate community activity at venues; generate anonymous venue activity insights; and provide personalized venue recommendations. Your location is only used for Osaka Nightlife Network features and is never used for advertising, sold to third parties, or shared with external services.
How Anonymous Analytics Are Created
When multiple members check in at a venue, the Platform aggregates the number of active check-ins and converts it into an approximate activity level (such as 'Very Quiet', 'Quiet', 'Relaxed', 'Moderate', 'Busy', 'Lively', or 'Packed'). The exact number of members is never displayed. Instead, approximate descriptions like 'A few members are here', 'Several members are here', 'Popular tonight', or 'Trending tonight' are shown. These analytics never identify individual members.
How Recommendations Work
If you enable personalized recommendations, the Platform uses your interests, favorite venue tags, previously visited venues (only if you have enabled visit history saving), current venue atmosphere, time of day, and day of week to suggest venues you might enjoy. Recommendations are generated based on your preferences and activity within the Platform. You can disable recommendations at any time in Privacy & Location Settings.
How to Disable Location Services
You can disable location services at any time by visiting Privacy & Location Settings in your Account Settings. Simply toggle 'Location Services' off. When disabled, the Platform will not detect your presence at any venue, and you will not receive check-in prompts. You can re-enable location services at any time. You can also choose 'Don't Ask Again' for specific venues to stop receiving check-in prompts at those venues.
How to Delete Your Location History
You can delete your location history at any time by visiting Privacy & Location Settings. The 'Clear Visit History' option removes your past check-in records. The 'Delete All Location History' option permanently deletes all check-in and location-related data associated with your account. These actions cannot be undone. You can also download a copy of your location history before deleting it.
Security Measures
All location data is encrypted in transit using TLS and at rest using industry-standard encryption. We store the minimum amount of location information necessary for the Platform's features. We do not collect continuous travel history outside of venue detection. Location data is never sold or shared with third parties. You have full control over your location information and can modify or delete it at any time.
Presence Modes
When you check in at a venue, you can choose a presence mode: Private (hidden from other members), Invisible (appear offline to everyone), Friends Only (visible only to members you follow), Community Visible (your presence is visible to the community), or Networking Mode (visible and open to meeting new people). You can change your presence mode at any time. Users are never automatically displayed to other members without their explicit choice.
Future Features
The location system is designed to support future features such as friend meetups, event check-ins, venue loyalty programs, community heat maps, personalized nightlife recommendations, and smart venue discovery. All future features will maintain the same privacy-first architecture: no continuous tracking, explicit user consent, approximate (not exact) activity display, and full user control over location data.
